Race Preview: 2016 Annual Seaside Beach Run 5k/10k (Seaside)

Seaside Beach Run

The 50th annual Seaside Beach Run takes place on Saturday, July 16th on the promenade and the beach in Seaside, Oregon. The event has something to offer to all fitness levels, from the untimed promenade walk to 10k run in the sand, and several options in between.

The day opens with packet pickup and race day registration at 7am. The first event is the timed 5k race walk on the promenade, which takes off at 8:45am, followed shortly after by the untimed fun walk at 8:50. The 5k and 10k runners are then escorted onto the beach to await further instruction before the 9am start of the beach run. The course for all events is really easy: The 5k events are heading south for half their distance to the respective turnaround points, then heading back north again to the finish; the 10k does its first half towards the north first, then turning around and joining the 5k participants.

The free kids run starts at 10:30am, and the treasure hunt immediately after that at 10:45. While it is a free event and pre-registration is not required, it is a good idea to give organizers an idea of how many participants to expect. The picnic begins at 11:15 and the awards ceremony at 11:30.

All proceeds of the event go to Fit To Be Teens, Inc., a 501(c)3 charitable organization providing fitness opportunities for Clatsop County middle and high school students.
