Small Race Preview: 2016 Pioneer Run (Salem)

The Pioneer Run will be held at the Oregon State Fairgrounds on May 7. This race is a fundraiser for Western Mennonite School in Salem and is held in conjunction with its 44th annual benefit auction. The funds raised from this race go towards an initiative to encourage students to engage in active and healthy lifestyles.

The Western Mennonite Pioneers would like you to participate in one of their 3 events. Choose from the 2.5 mile run or walk, the 5 mile run, or grab a friend and participate in the 5 mile partner relay. The course is 2.5 miles, with the 5 mile option running the course twice. The course loops around a portion of the fairgrounds.

Even if you can’t run, there is a pretty cool option to help out. There are students who would like to run, but need assistance in covering the race fee. You can sponsor a student (or community member) and give him or her the opportunity to participate!

The top 3 finishers for the 2.5 mile and 5 mile distances will receive a medal. In the relay, the first all-male, all-female, and mixed teams to finish will receive medals. All participants are eligible to win prizes.
