Race Preview: 2016 Pajama Rama 5k

One of most memorable events from 2016, was the inaugural Pajama Rama 5k, held on June 28, 2015 in Silverton. It had so much local flavor and greatness, but the most memorable part was the sheer heat. Like almost 100 degree heat. That's not the RD's fault by any means, but it wasn't exactly cozy pajama weather. Following the event, I spoke to the RD and he vowed to make some changes to the 2016 event, which were centered around the date and the location By the time I had to go to work the following Monday, participants had already received an email about some proposed changes:

Date

From the email: “We have set the date for the 2016 Pajama Rama 5K for Saturday, May 7th. We can…reach more people as school will still be in session and families won’t be on vacation yet.

Theme

The event was billed as a pajama and “neon” run. We were given neon bracelets and necklaces to wear, and were encouraged to run in colorful pajamas and neon clothes. However, the summer start didn’t exactly allow us to get the true feel of the neon. From the email:

It will not only be much cooler outside, but we will be starting at 8:00 pm instead of 6:00pm. This will allow us to use more neon on the course and will be a true twilight run.

Balloon sheep were awesome!

Runners will still get to run a nice route – an out-and-back that starts at Silverton High School and heads north to the Gallon House Covered Bridge just out of town. The course is very simple and featured only about 6 total turns.

The event once again benefits Silverton High School and the Silverton Senior Center. In 2015, there were over $2000 (yes – two thousand dollars) in raffle prizes, as well as free Dairy Queen ice cream coupons – which we immediately took advantage of after leaving the race. Mac’s Place will be open after the race for the 21+ crowd, and there will be activities and drink specials available. Those with kids will receive a free game of cosmic bowling at Silver Creek Lanes.

This is a true fun run, and there is sure to be a lot of energy attached to it – much like there was last year. There is no timing and participants are encouraged to wear neon and be as bright as humanly possible. Basically, plan to come and have a good time and worry less about speed.
