Race Preview: Reindeer Romp and Bullwinkle Bash (Wilsonville)

Wilsonville Parks and Rec

After a busy week of turkeys trotting, now it is time for bells to start jingling and reindeer romping. The third annual Reindeer Romp and Bullwinkle Bash in Wilsonville is fun and inexpensive event for the whole family, including a cotton event tshirt, reindeer antlers, and a red nose in the goodie bags.

The race starts at Town Center Park next to the Parks and Rec building, and ends at Family Fun Center. Parking is available at Family Fun Center with shuttles taking participants to Town Center Park, or it is an easy two block walk as well. There is no bag check at the the start, so plan accordingly.

Bullwinkle’s Bash

The morning starts with the kids dash around Town Center Park. Participation in the kids dash is free, but registrations are strongly encouraged to ensure a shirt and goodie bag for each runner. The untimed 5k run/walk on the streets of Wilsonville starts at 9am, and all kids dash runners are invited to participate in the 5k as well. In past years, the slightly-shy-of-3.1-mile course has taken runners north on Parkway Ave, looping around the Mentor Graphics walking path, through the Courtside neighborhood, through Town Center Park, and ending at Wilsonville Fun Center.

Family Fun Center and Bullwinkle’s Restaurant is a wonderful, warm location for the post race party, including food, drinks, and kids activities. I’ve participated in this run for the past two years, and I am planning to again this year. While the event doesn’t offer some of the bells and whistles that many runners are used to, Wilsonville Parks and Rec is doing an excellent job attracting  and entertaining participants of all ages and abilities.
