My first Uberthons race was the inaugural Turkeython back in 2011, when it was held at Cook Park in Tigard. Since then, it has moved to Beaverton Town Square (2012), Washington Square Mall (2013 – brr, that was a chilly morning!), and Bridgeport Village (2014), which will become the first repeat venue for the race this year. (Here’s my recap of last year’s event.)
The Turkeython is usually the biggest Uberthons event of the year; last year, over a thousand runners took part in the 5K, 10K, or 10K relay races. Because the race is being held at a mall, and because it’s on Thanksgiving morning, there should be ample parking. (Be aware, however, that getting out of the parking structure can take some time if there are runners still on the course.)
Race time is at 8:30 a.m., with post-race festivities (awards and the kids’ race) lasting until after 10 o’clock. That means you can get up, run a fun race, clean up, and watch football before feasting.
Team registration: Groups of 10 or more can register as a team up to two weeks before the event. You get $5 off each entry, and the team captain gets a $25 gift certificate to a local sports clothing store. (If you have 30 or more team members, the captain also gets a certificate for a pair of new shoes.)
