Race Preview: 2015 Shellburg Falls Trail Run

Trail races in December are a tricky affair. Oregon nature is beautiful in any season, but with near freezing temperatures and precipitation always threatening, even the most scenic race can turn dreary in a heartbeat. With the right gear and mindset, even the worst race can be a blast, and the Shellburg Falls Trail Run put on by RunWild Adventures on December 5th has got to be one of them. The 5.2 mi course around the Oregon Department of Forestry's Shellburg Falls is definitely not of the flat and fast variety.

Registration is open online, capped at 250 entrants and it sells out every year. If you are considering doing this event, the low $20 online entry fee is a bonus as well. Day of event registration, if available, is $30. Post event amenities include food, beverages, awards, a beer garden, and music. Packet pickup starts at 7:30 and the gun goes off at 9. Awards will be given to the top 3 overall finishers of each gender and the 1st place of each age group in 5 year increments.

This event is an adventure and a race in one. The weather may be a bit cool on December 5th, but RunWild Adventure has always done a great job of putting on first class events so it will be worth the drive. Five miles goes by a lot faster on the trail than it does on the road and the low entry fee is a great incentive to give this race a try. Just remember to bring a spare set of clothes, especially shoes!
