Foot Traffic is opening a new location on the “west side” starting June 13th! I can’t hide my excitement as this will be within running distance to me (give or take a few miles…. Okay. Maybe a long run, but I swear it IS really close to me).
To RSVP for the festivities at the grand opening, check out the Facebook event page here. Foot Traffic will be unveiling a wood carving of Kara Goucher and inducting two local female runners into the new Women’s Running and Walking Hall of Fame (and honoring the 20 women who were nominated). The carving and hall of fame (along with the 20 nominations) are meant to commemorate the transformation in women’s running in the last 25 years.
Did you know in just 25 years, female race representation went from a paltry 25% in 1990 to nearly 60% currently with over 10.8 million finishers!? It’s time to celebrate this amazing evolution!
Foot Traffic is helping support local female runners in several ways in addition to honoring local legends with the Women’s Hall of Fame. They are now a primary sponsor for Girls on the Run- Portland in addition to offering for the third year their all-women’s training program, Foot Traffic Women’s Academy. A new scholarship program for Foot Traffic Women’s Academy will be announced at the grand opening to help provide free entry to those that cannot afford to join, but still want to have a safe and supportive introduction to the sport.
This will be Foot traffic’s fourth location (13306 NW Cornell Rd. Portland) and to celebrate, stop by on June 13th between 8am and 12pm. The schedule of events include:
8am: Free group run/walk
9:00-9:30: Refreshments and celebration

10:00am- unveiling of Kara Goucher statue (carved with a chainsaw!)
