Looking for a killer trail race? The Mountain Marathon and Hillbilly Half Marathon was voted “Best Trail Race” by Competitor Running and “Gnarliest Race” by Outdoors Northwest Magazine. The Hillbilly Half Marathon is part of La Sportiva Mountain Cup which compiles the 10 best trail races in North America for a competitive series with a hefty prize package up for grabs. Just outside of Olympia, Washington in Capitol Forest, this technical trail race on March 7 is likely the hardest half and full marathon in the state.
Run mostly on single track trails, this race is full of technical trails, steep climbs, the inevitable mud the Pacific Northwest forests have this time of year, and beautiful views. Racers will have to work hard for their beer stein at the finish. (See course map here.)

Each race is limited to just 300 participants, so make sure you register soon to avoid missing out on this challenging trail race. And if you want to add a technical t-shirt, be sure to register by February 10. Racers, be aware that though there are 9 aid stations for the full marathon and 5 aid stations for the half, there will be no throw-away cups available. As a “waste-free event,” race organizers ask that you carry your own water containers (hand-helds, water packs, etc.) Also note that the cut-off time for the marathon is 8 hours and 7 hours for the half marathon.
Brought to you by Guerilla Running, this race benefits Friends of Capitol Forest.
