Race Preview: 2015 SuperFan 5K

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is putting on a benefit run at Mary S. Young State Park on January 31st. They are raising money towards the FCA Camp and Coach Scholarship fund. Judging from the energetic highlight video shown on the official site here, it looks like a fun run. The location is a definite plus, as I learned attending a different event at the same park. Natural beauty, great trails, plenty of parking and easy to find location close to I-205 are all attributes in its favor.

You can register at the site link above, which would be a good idea to beat the price bump on January 11th. Right now it is $25, and it goes up five dollars at that point. Day of race registration is $35. As a nice bonus, if you register four athletes, they will send a code to register a  fifth person for free. After the 5K, there will be a 1K kids race, for those 10 years old and younger. That is $5 an entry.

This event benefits a youth athletic camp and also a scholarship fund to help kids attend. They are trying something new this year, picking a couple former OSU athletes and coaches as markers to beat. For every participant that finishes ahead of them, they will donate an extra $5. Personally, I will try my hardest to ensure the fund gets an extra boost, and invite any other speedsters to join me in this quest.

In the spirit of the event, costumes are encouraged. The idea is to get proclaim your team spirit, be it pro, collegiate, or amateur level. This could mean football helmets, poms poms, face paint, or any other form of fun team spirit. I’m not usually much of a costume runner, but I might try to run in some hockey gear if I am feeling particularly brave. This could be one of the best ‘fun runs’ of the winter for several different reasons. Fingers crossed for great weather to really insure a good time!
