Small Race Preview: 2015 Stride Toward Freedom MLK 5K Run/1 Mile Walk

I am nowhere near the ideal college alum. Even living less than 5 miles from campus, I don’t really come back for homecoming football games or graduation ceremonies. I really should take more advantage of the great guest speakers that come on campus, but sadly I don’t. But Willamette University keeps wanting to get me back (apparently), by hosting the 8th annual Stride Toward Freedom MLK 10k and 5k on Saturday, January 24, 2015.

This event aims to celebrate diversity and honor the memory of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with all proceeds benefiting the Salem Multicultural Institute. The Salem Multicultural Institute is the local non-profit that owns and creates the annual World Beat Festival, Oregon’s largest multicultural celebration, held each June at Riverfront Park in Salem. Our mission is to promote an appreciation and understanding of the cultural diversity in our community.

The race starts and ends at Brown Field, which is on the Willamette University campus (just off the Mill and Winter Streets) and heads to the popular Bush Park and back.  There will be light snacks following the race.
