Race Preview: 2015 Snowflake Dash – All Women’s 5K fun run

The 2nd annual Snowflake Dash 5k is a women's only fun run/walk and is a non-chip timed event. This year, the event is supporting Girls on the Run as the beneficiary.
Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-5th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.
The run starts inside Diva Den Studio and continues through the Fano Creek trails, leading runners through the streets of old town Tigard, crossing under the Hwy 99 overpass.  The course is an out and back with surprise raffle stations along the way!  You may have to dance a jig or give the race marshals 5 burpees to earn your raffle tickets. Race starts at 1pm and the raffle drawing will begin at 2pm.  Participants are encouraged to dress in your best white, snowflake gear and enter at a chance to win the costume contest!

One of our bloggers reviewed her 2014 experience. Here are some excerpts from her participation:

The Diva Den Studio, as it turns out, was a killer place for pre-race and post-race festivities.  Warm and dry, their studio is in a “garage”, but let me assure you that  it does not resemble a garage save for the door that opens.  Pre-race warm ups included a dance from the Diva Den Dancers (men, if you didn’t attend this event with your ladies, YOU MISSED OUT!) and then some warm ups and stretches led by the instructors.

The course itself was fun, and well-marked and staffed with volunteers to help direct and cheer.  The course was 2.8 miles by my Garmin, which matters little to nothing, because the event was just meant to be fun and wasn’t chip timed.  And. IT. WAS. FUN.   My favorite part was running along Fanno Creek, a place I frequented as a kid to pick blackberries and throw rocks in the water.

As we crossed the finish line we each received a pretty sweet swag bag.  I took a picture of all the goodies in the swag bag because there was so much GOOD STUFF.  (well done ladies, one of the best SWAG bags I’ve ever gotten).  Included in the SWAG bag are a pair of Wildskins, running sleeves (the pretty floral print you see here) and I cannot wait to wear them!

2014 Swag Bag

will receive:

  • Swag Bags for all finishers
  • Pre-run warm up
  • Post-run performance
  • Free coffee, beer and soup
  • Vendors
  • Costume contest
  • After party to follow at Max’s Brew Pub in old town Tigard.

Additional donations can be made for the shoe drive supporting Girls on the Run. If you would like to donate, you can bring a new pair or lightly used pair of running shoes on race day.  The most popular sizes are youth 1- adult 5.  Or a cash donation to go towards purchasing shoes for girls in need.
