Race Preview: Sacred Heart 10k/5k Fun Run

sacredheart.jpgThe Sacred Heart Fun Run, is a 10k and 5k event is held in the small town of Gervais (a bit north of Salem and Woodburn) and will help provide some support for the 70 children attending Sacred Heart School. The race is coming up quickly (October 25, 2014), so it is the perfect opportunity to check out a city and course you have likely never run before!
The race directors are both alumni of the school and have stuck around to make positive changes in the educational community. Even outside of education, the small community is encouraging all families to become active. Previous year’s events have been filled with smiling parents, children, and teachers all participating together. And while the race has remained relatively small, they have grown enough to warrant a 10k (started in 2013) in addition to the 5k. Last year saw 85 total runners in both events combined.

The 5k loop course is described as flat and fast and caters to seasoned runners and those just looking to be active. The scenery is sure to be extremely beautiful, as it is surrounded primarily by numerous farms and their crops. The 10k adds a little out and back near the St. Louis ponds. Expect more of the same serene and peaceful countryside.
Make sure to take a tour of the school that you are helping to support before you leave and know that your money is directly helping out the youth in this small community.
