I have to start out by saying I love Halloween. It’s truly my favorite holiday. When I grow up (snicker) I want to have that one house in the neighborhood that is completely decked out and people will come from all over to see. Graveyard in the front yard, ghosts, ghouls, goblins … you get the picture.
I love running events that encourage folks to dress up in Halloween costumes. I have run as a “dead” prom queen, a zombie, a devil and other fun (I mean scary) creatures. If I feel a little silly, all I have to do is look around me at the other sillies out there. In this particular event, you don’t have to dress up, but it would be fun to do, as it does happen to be a Zombie Apocalypse.
The Monster Dash Run for Your Life 5k and 10k takes place Saturday October 18th at the Columbia View Park in downtown St. Helens. It’s presented by the Rotary Club of Columbia County and it’s a benefit for local military veterans. Helping our veterans is very near and dear to my heart and I know I’m not the only one. They have sacrificed so much for us. We need to take care of them.
This sounds like so much fun, I couldn’t put it better so I’ll simply quote from the website:
Downtown St. Helens Oregon is transformed into a post-apocalyptic wasteland overrun by zombies. Your mission will take you through the carnage and onto the city streets of St. Helens. When all is quiet and you think you have escaped the chaos, the zombies will find you. Danger awaits as the 5k and 10k runners leave the paved roadways and enter onto the gravel walking paths of McCormick Park.
What lurks beyond the trees? Keep running, you’ll find out.
As far as the course goes, all of the events start in the park and the course is pretty much fast and flat. There will be a mixture of roadway and gravel paths.
There is also a Monster Mile for the young set and it’s not so spooky so don’t worry that they will be traumatized!
Not only is the race taking place, but Historic downtown St. Helens will be alive with things to see and do. A Pumpkin Patch, hayride, and the “Haunted” Hot Rod Cruise-In and Hearse Rally will be happening, just to name a few. Check out this page of their website to see the entire list of things going on.
