Race Preview: Stayton Fun Run (10k, 5k, 3k) on the 4th of July

Here is yet another Independence Day run put on in conjunction with a parade. The 31st annual Stayton Fun Run is back once again and head just before Stayton’s 4th of July Festival. From the website:

The festival features such activities as a Habitat for Humanity Pancake Breakfast, Kid’s and Grand Parade, a community dinner, band concerts, variety show, kid’s games, food booths and a fantastic fireworks display. So, there is much to do after the race is over.

There are three distances this year, a 3k, a 5k Trail Run, and a 10k run. All distances will  take place on asphalt and cross-country surfaces, with the 5k obviously consisting most on the trail portion. After 30 years, you know that the organizers have worked out a lot of the bugs with the race. But also keep in mind that this is a Fun Run that will be not only good for the competitive runner, but also for those runners just wanting to get out there and walkers as well.

The price is ridiculously low ($10), so the “bling” isn’t the focus – the running and parade is. There will be ribbons for top-3 finishers in age groups and overall walkers however. There will also be coupons to a pancake feast and prize drawings. Shirts can be purchased for extra. All proceeds are donated to the Stayton Scout Troop 50.
