Race Preview: Just Beat it in the Burg 5k fund raiser for Elissa Bogardus

Beat it in the Burg The "it" in "Just Beat it in the Burg" is Cancer. If you know me, you know I hate Cancer and I long for the day that there's a cure. But until there is, there will be amazing people like the ones behind this race, raising money for a young mother diagnosed with Stage 4 cervical and ovarian cancer. Elissa Bogardus of Roseburg has a huge network of people joining her in her fight, and they have planned a big weekend to celebrate her birthday which is on June 1. In addition to Sunday's 5k fund raiser fun run, there's a concert by country singer Jessie Goergen at the Elks Club the night before.

Here are the vitals, so you can get signed up:

When: Sunday, June 1, 2014

What time: 11a

Where: Whistlers Bend Park at 2828 Whistlers Park Road

Register: Online for $35 or at the event starting at 9a – they are also selling awesome t-shirts and bracelets to support Elissa

You can learn more about Elissa’s fight, the May 31st concert and the June 1st 5k on the Elissa’s Army facebook page here, and on the Elissa’s Army website here. Even if you can’t attend, you can contribute here and help them better the nearly $60k they’ve raised towards their goal of $100k.

Go, Elissa!

About Kelly Barten (1152 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
