If you're looking for a scenic, challenging way to get in your long run on March 9th, consider signing up for the Race to the Cape, an "approximately" 10 mile fun run near Tillamook put on by some amazing people at Ascherl Industries. Ascherl Industries puts on a number of races as part of the Trail Challenge Series - a group of runs on beautiful trails with amazing views. Just check out the course map if you need convincing! The Race to the Cape starts at 10a from Cape Lookout State Park and is an out-and-back route along North Trail and Cape Trail. There will be one water station that participants will pass twice.

Despite being called a Fun Run, you can race it. This is a trail race, so expect some challenges above and beyond a road run; organizers suggest you bring your camera though. My husband recently ran this trail and agrees – “The views are amazing,” he says, adding that he saw a whale while out on his run.

Participation is limited to only 50 participants – so sign up early to make sure your spot is reserved! All finishers will receive medals.

When: Sunday, March 9, 2014

What time: 10a

Where: Cape Lookout State Park – bring $5 to pay for parking

Register: Online here for $30; don’t rely on DOR because this fun run will likely fill

Sign up to volunteer – enjoy the views and then after the race, get in your own run – by emailing ascherlindustries@hotmail.com.

About Kelly Barten (1049 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.

  1. I am signed up for this race and can’t wait! I’m new to Oregon and trail running, but love the coast. Glad I got in!
