TrailHeads has your Noggin Covered

Hats are one of those things that seem insignificant in the grander scheme of running gear, but if they don’t fit or feel right, they can make a run really dreadful. The further you go, the more important it is for you to forget what you’re wearing, and I’ve found a lot of hats really don’t do that job well.

I’m running a marathon in Hawaii next month, and I’ve been looking for the right hat to handle the heat. I was thankful to get the opportunity to try out the UV Protection Running Hat for Women from TrailHeads because it will not only protect me from the rays of sun but it’s also extremely lightweight.

Looks

I received the UV Protection Running Hat in the color Dusk Blue, but there are many other color options available. It’s a very plain hat, which I really love because it blends in with any outfit, and there’s a tiny reflective “TrailHeads” logo on the lefthand side of the brim.

Function & Construction

I love a good lightweight hat, and this one feels like nothing when you put it on your head. It’s also very quick drying and the internal sweatband is moisture wicking, so both of those factors really help when you sweat a lot.

The inside of the brim is dark grey, which helps reduce the glare from the sunshine, especially if you plan to be out there on the pavement for awhile.

The shell of the hat is super soft and malleable rather than stiff and structured. It could easily be balled up in a bag and would travel well.  It’s also machine washable, which is a huge plus because after a hot sticky run, I really just want to be able to toss it into the laundry with everything else.

The star of the show is, as you probably guessed, that the hat has built in UV protection with a 50+ UPF rating. This means that even under the harsh sun, you’ll be blocked from 98% of the ultraviolet rays.

Fit

We all have heads of different shapes and sizes, so everyone has different qualifiers in regarding to what feels comfortable. For me personally, if a hat doesn’t fit right, I usually feel some pain around the tops of my ears and sometimes I get a little itchy around my forehead. This hat definitely feels great throughout every journey, whether it’s a 30-minute run or a 3 hour+ trek.

I love the Women’s UV Protection hat because it’s actually made for a woman’s head. There is also a Men’s UV Protection Hat available which is a bit larger (specs can be found at bottom of review.) The adjustable closure in the back will further ensure that you can easily tighten or loosen it to work for whatever you prefer.

Overall

The Women’s UV Protection Hat checks all my boxes. It’s comfortable, hassle-free, and light. It’s the next best thing to no hat at all, but with the benefit of sun protection. It will for sure make it into my luggage for Hawaii!
