High Mileage, Higher Style: The Altra X SOAR Collaboration

Red Bull x Extreme Sports.
Taco Bell x Doritos.
Fort George x 2 Other Breweries for the Annual 3-Way IPA.

These are just a few standout collaborations that come to mind — and now, we’re seeing more of that energy show up in the running world, too.

One of the latest examples: a trail racing collab between Altra and SOAR. The goal? Blend Altra’s established presence in the trail running scene with SOAR’s reputation for premium performance apparel. It’s function meets finesse — rugged capability wrapped in engineered style.

This isn’t Altra’s first foray into collaboration, but it may be of the strongest yet. It combines SOAR’s innovation and fabric expertise with Altra’s trail-tested design, resulting in a product that performs and looks like it belongs on the podium.

Here is what is in the collection, all in the limited-edition Prism colorway:

You can read more about the Altra Mont Blanc ($260) in our review. This carbon-plated race day shoe featuring dual-density midsole and a Vibram Megagrip outsole remains the same. What’s new, though, is the limited edition Prism colorway — and it pops. If the Mont Blanc is already your go-to, this bold new look is sure to turn heads while you log your miles.

At $200, there’s no bones about it — this trail racing top comes with a hefty price tag. But if you’re ready to splurge, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better option. It’s incredibly lightweight and built specifically for racing. The technical details are impressive, too: an ultralight mesh across the body for active cooling, plus abrasion-resistant panels designed to minimize chafing on those long-distance runs.

The same can be said about the running shorts, which come in at $285. Honestly, I’m not sure I’ve seen—or worn—a pair with this level of sophistication. Right off the bat, SOAR’s race day half tight isn’t made from run-of-the-mill material. It features RHEON, a reactive superpolymer developed using NASA technology—yes, that NASA.

According to SOAR, RHEON stiffens under force to absorb energy, then relaxes to allow freedom of movement. That’s running at its core: controlled energy and relaxation. This tech delivers a near-perfect fit without unwanted bounce or constriction.

Plus, these tights come loaded with integrated storage pockets throughout, providing plenty of space for gels, fuel, headlamps, and all the essentials—making them an ideal choice for all-day trail racing.

As a connoisseur of headwear (they don’t call me Matt in the Hat for nothing), I’m all in on the Run Cap ($65). It’s ultra-lightweight, stylish, and checks all the boxes for form and function.

The SOAR x Altra collaboration is a well-executed blend of performance and design, made for those who take their trail time seriously. With the collection available for a limited time, it’s worth checking out if you’re looking to upgrade your gear with something built for both comfort and speed.
