Shady Rays: The Bright Side of Affordable Style

Sunglasses are a bit like socks. They come and go at inopportune times and never seem to be around in the moments I need them. And with that said, finding the right price-point is tricky. It’s important for me to have good quality glasses that don’t hurt my ears or slide down my nose, but I’m not willing to pay triple digits for that luxury, especially considering I lose, break, or scratch them often.

I love Shady Rays because they aren’t cheap but they are reasonably priced for the quality that you get. They are also backed by something called the Live Hard Protection Limited Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty and Lost & Broken Replacements.

There are also many styles and colors available. I got the Cascade glasses as well as the Tangle Free Aviators.

Looks

The Cascade style sunglasses I received came in a color called Crystal Rose. You can get the Original Polarized lenses or the COLORUSH Polarized lens in this style and color, and I got the COLORUSH. There is another color in this style (Crystal Lagoon) that is only available in the Original Polarized lens style.

The aviators come in eight different lens color options. Two of them (Blackout and Calimesa) have the COLORUSH Polarized lens option, and the other six are the standard PRO Polarized lenses. I received the purple lenses (set in black wire frames) in the PRO Polarized lens option.

Function

The COLORUSH technology is engineered to offer the consumer the best color enhancement possible but also aim to maintain “World Class Optical Clarity.” There’s nothing worse than putting on a pair of sunglasses and tripping over something because the lenses change everything too severely. COLORUSH technology enhance red, green, and blue colors while maintaining white point.

The original (“non-COLORUSH” for lack of a better term,) polarized lenses are also great, but the colors aren’t quite as vibrant. The quality and durability is just as great and both are great for both sports and lifestyle wearability and provide 100% UV Protection.

The aviators have a patented design for the nose pieces that makes them tangle free. This means, (amazingly!) no getting your hair stuck in the nose pieces like many other brands. As someone with lots of hair, I can personally tell you how epically awesome this is, as I often find myself pulling hair out after wearing my sunglasses on the top of my head. Additionally, the polycarbonate optics provide sharper contrasts as well as increased durability.

Construction & Fit

Shady Rays will stand behind their glasses. They have something called Live Hard Protection, and this means that if you lose or break your Shady Rays shades, readers, blue light glasses, or limited edition shades, they will send you a brand new pair no matter what happened. (Note that there will be a small processing fee and there’s a max of 2 replacements purchased within the first 24 months or purchase.) There is also a Limited Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty.

The Cascade glasses have snap hinges and a “no slip” grip that ensure they will stay on your face no matter the activity. The aviators, in addition to the tangle-free technolory, have a hydrophobic coating which will repel water to keep your lenses clean. Both styles of sunglasses are very comfortable to wear, and they don’t hurt my ears or pinch my nose.

There are two size options for all the styles of glasses, Small and Medium/Large. If you happen to have a small face, you’ll have an option for that. Medium/Large size suites most average to large faces.

Overall/For Consideration

The next time you are in the market for some good shades, check out Shady Rays. They have a variety of styles and color options, and they stay in place throughout any activity. The tangle-free option is an amazing feature on the aviators as well.
