One day, there will come a time in the running world when reviews of Skechers shoes won’t have to start with, “Hey, we know it’s Skechers, which is crazy!” and end with, “These aren’t your average Skechers!” After consistently producing quality running shoes for several years, Skechers has earned a spot as a serious player—but here we are, still feeling the need to say it.

We’ve reviewed Skechers shoes for a while now, though there’s been a bit of a delay since our last one. The Razor 5 is here, and it’s another step up in both performance and style.
Looks
Skechers has received criticism in the past for the aesthetics of its running shoes, but that’s changing. The Razor 5 features “SKH” branding instead of the typical Skechers logo, giving it a fresh look that might appeal to runners who wouldn’t normally consider Skechers. Both the men’s and women’s versions come in a red and white/blue colorway, as well as my personal favorite – an eye-catching, dotted colorful outsole and midsole. I love it.
Function
This shoe is incredibly light, weighing only 8 ounces for a men’s size 9 and 6.4 ounces for a women’s size 7. Designed with race day in mind, it’s light and fast but structured enough for training days too.
Upper
The upper is constructed from a lightweight, durable mesh. The laces function as expected, and the collar feel is secure and comfortable. The heel is not overly padded, but more than you would probably expect in a lighter shoe. The tongue is not gusseted, but holds in place well with the laces securing it in place. Overall, the upper provides simplicity in design but is effective in keeping the weight down.
Midsole
The Razor 5 midsole has a lot to offer. It features Hyperburst Pro, a highly responsive, ultra-lightweight TPU cushioning that gives an impressive energy return and makes the shoe versatile for different types of runs. It also includes a patent-pending carbon-infused forefoot plate that helps boost performance, adding a bit of “race day” flair. While carbon plates aren’t usually my favorite, this one integrates well with the shoe’s overall feel.
A removable ArchFit insole provides certified arch support, making it easy to replace with a custom insole if desired (which I did).
Outsole
The outsole is reinforced with Goodyear rubber, delivering solid grip and traction, much like having “tires for your feet.” The durability and grip make it suitable for a variety of surfaces.
Overall
In the end, the Skechers Razor 5 proves that Skechers isn’t just “making a name” in the running shoe game—they’re here to stay. Lightweight, responsive, and with upgraded style, this shoe might just surprise even the toughest Skechers skeptics. It’s time to start seeing Skechers as a real contender on race day and beyond!
