In the recent past, Sony had planned to discontinue the Hurricane line. I recall discussions about loyal Hurricane enthusiasts transitioning to the Tempus, a solid shoe in its own right. But diehards are diehards for a reason and a dedicated fan base was perhaps vocal enough because we now find ourselves witnessing a sort of revival with the launch of the Hurricane 24.

Full disclosure: While we have a long history with Saucony, our experience with the Hurricane line is minimal. Digging through old posts, the only review I found was of the Hurricane ISO, which I personally ran in over a decade ago — wow!
Despite not having run in more recent versions of the Hurricane, it seems this latest iteration marks a significant redesign anyways. Saucony describes it as “a transformation from the ground up,” suggesting it’s almost like a new shoe altogether. I’m curious if other longtime Hurricane fans feel the same way.
Regardless, I’m really impressed with this shoe, especially considering its $160 price tag. I think it’s definitely worth checking out.
Looks:
I’ve spent quite a while trying to pin down the look of the Hurricane 24, and it’s proving challenging. It leans towards an old-school trainer style but with a modern twist. There are seven colors to choose from, but the review pair we received was predominantly white with touches of cloud gray, accents of orange, and unique ribbed stylings on the outer midsole. It’s clean and crisp—though being white might stir up emotions among PNW runners. Personally I really like it – much more so than some of their other options.
But I understand white isn’t everyone’s preference. Exploring the other colorways, the uniqueness of this particular one steps back a bit. Ultimately, what you have is a straightforward shoe that skillfully bridges an intriguing gap between styles, and perhaps even eras.
Construction:
Upper:
The Hurricane 24 is incredibly comfortable—so much so that I initially considered using it as casual wear, knowing my feet would appreciate it outside of running. While I didn’t make that switch, I wouldn’t blame anyone who did. In fact, the shoe webpage specifically says “everyday wear” with the image of a stick figure walking a dog – so it’s clearly multifunctional in Saucony’s mind as well.
The comfort is complemented by a plush upper and well-cushioned support in various areas. The padding along the collar is really nice and the heel collar holds the shoes in quite nicely. As a trade-off, it might not be the most breathable shoe out there. However, that’s often the compromise for comfort and protection.
Midsole:
Outsole:
The outsole of the Hurricane 24 is fairly conventional, which is a positive. It’s durable enough for daily training miles and offers reliable grip.
Overall:
While we can’t speak for longtime Hurricane enthusiasts, this latest version offers a smooth ride in a highly stable and comfortable package. It does lean a bit on the heavier side, but surprisingly doesn’t feel cumbersome when in motion on the street. But it’s a solid daily training option that can handle miles and potentially either co-exist as an everyday shoe – or eventually become one later in life. Recommended.
