Cotopaxi is an active volcano in Ecuador. It is also the name of an outdoor apparel company that makes dope items. Cotopaxi was founded with inspiration from the mountain, the trails around it, and a passion for creating durable gear as ethically and sustainably as possible, while giving back to communities in need.
Perhaps you’ve noticed their super bright, multi-colored jackets around town and on the trails. Cotopaxi has quickly become known as the bright stripe coat company (at least in my household), which has certainly allowed them to stand out in the industry of puffy coats. But more than a trendy look, Cotopaxi has quietly made a name by creating high quality gear that not only looks good but performs too.

Capa Hybrid Insulated Hooded Jacket
The Capa Hybrid Insulated Hooded Jacket is relatively new. I love the bright colors and this jacket certainly delivers those. But the PrimaLoft insulation, along with the scuba hood, elastic binding at the hood and cuffs, and the hybrid design are what I’ve been the most excited about.
Most puffy coats are not really designed for running, as they insulate so well that within moments of starting a run you have to strip it off. The plus about the hybrid is the stretch paneling in the sleeves and knit side panels that are designed for the movement of exercise, as well as to allow more airflow.
The Capa definitely keeps runners warm and after a few miles, being able to simply zip the jacket down a bit was nice to be able vent the heat, and still maintain enough warmth. The thumbholes are nice, and the elastic binding keeps the sleeves snug around my hands.
The hood’s knit stitching surprised me with how warm it is. I imagine it will come in handy on cold days when I might find myself standing around before or after a run. For now, I’m digging the fact I can wear this around town with just a t-shirt under it. Cotopaxi indeed makes some high-quality gear, and the Capa Jacket is no exception.
Teca Fleece Full-Zip Jacket
The Teca Fleece Full Zip is fantastic and another great addition to the closet now that the weather is taking a turn into cooler temperatures. It is constructed from 100% recycled polyester fleece and repurposed polyester taffeta. This construction keeps cold and wind and cold at bay, while also keeping items out of the landfill.
The fit is really on point. It has the right amount of slimming without being uncomfortable. It’s perfect to wear before and after races or even to wear on a brisk walk or short run if you so desire. Add in the insulated handwarmer pockets and you have a bit more protection. I do with the inside of the pockets were fleece instead of jacket material, but that’s a small “gripe”.
There is some room available for layering items underneath – though it feels quite nice and warm even with just a tee-shirt underneath. I would recommend sizing up if you prefer more room to layer, but standard sizing is likely going to be a best bet. The length in the torso was nice, but I personally would prefer a little more length in the arms (though I do have longer than average extremities).
The Teca pairs with a nice pair of jeans and looks casual enough to wear to a Timbers or Blazers game (though you may want a different color), yet can also double as a quasi-formal option for a casual date night out in much of the city. It can even be a pre- and post-run layer, which I have been utilizing this for over the past few weeks. It’s very warm and super inviting after those chilly runs.
It’s super soft, but with a certain quality that screams to be comfortable out-and-about as opposed to just a piece of apparel to laze around the house in (though both can be accomplished quite nicely in this top).
Overall, there really isn’t a reason why these tops shouldn’t be considerations to add to your closet. Their functionality makes them ideal for not only runners looking to stay warm, but also for any PNW individual.
