Update: As of 8/7, this event has been canceled.
Oregon Road Runners Club (ORRC) has been offering quality races in the Pacific Northwest for over 50 years. In 2022, they are bringing us all a brand new race in a brand new style. For the Poker Relay, it’s all about your cards at the end of the race.
For this new event, participants sign up for teams of one to five participants to complete five loops 2-mile loops at Greenway Tractor Park. With teams varying in size, that means participants can chose the number of laps each person will tackle and the order they want to run in. The course is flat, paved, and open to other park guests. The team starts with two playing cards and then is dealt a new card at the end of each lap. Out of
seven cards total, the team presents their best five-card hand. There is an opportunity to exchange cards in the loops, and more details on the rules on the ORRC website.
Now in case you’re worried that your card skills won’t be good enough, there will also be prizes available through a cake-walk every 20 minutes. So while you’re waiting for your relay partners, you could be winning a cake!!! And water and Gatorade will be available at the exchange point as well. Don’t forget that ORRC is now a cup-less organization so bring your own container (and maybe a fork for cake!).
