Is a Blanket a Running Accessory? Tarpestry says Yes.

A blanket may not seem like a running-specific item, but as we are in the midst of relay running season I am guessing many of us realize what a benefit one can be. Tarpestry (think tarp + tapestry) is a super-tough weather-resistant outdoor blanket that is practically designed with the PNW and all of our outdoor adventures (running included) in mind.

Tarpestry’s are water-repellent and UV-resistant on both sides and come in a bunch of beautiful designs. Each features at least 4 rings in the corners (though you can upgrade to as many as 10) so it can be hung up to create shade and privacy or staked down for a water-resistant surface.

Aside from using as an option during HTC or CLR, it isn’t something that is going to be limited to 2-3 day usage. From hanging out at the beaches, wine tasting, or watching a concert at the Edgefield, the Tarpestry obviously fits in quite well.

They are even more than just something to lay on (though that’s great). The Rugged version we have been trying out includes the standard UV and water-repellent base layer, as well as an additional layer to provide even more water resistance and toughness. That allows us to take on camping trips to use as a rain cover, or to the river and hang up as a sun shade (stock up on accessories to easily accommodate these).

It is evident that Tarpestry’s are made to last as well. The price is a little high for some, but this may be one of the final blankets you need. It has a little weight (4 lbs.) and heft to it, something that showcases its necessary and durable construction. Sure, you could get something lighter, but if moisture seeps through, or it wears out after a summer of use, then is it really even worth it?

Make sure you care for it per Tarpestry’s recommendations and it should be good for years to come.

There are 7 colorways and designs in the Rugged Collection (and moreso in their other styles), all of which are super cool.

We have already used this a bunch of times in the last month – at the Zoo amphitheater after the ORRC Summer Stolstice 5k at the Zoo and also at the Norah Jones concert in Bend. We can’t wait to add this to our post-race regimen as we run in locations where we want to hang out afterwards. Just goes to show you that a blanket can be a running item – who knew?!
