As runners, we all put our feet through the ringer. From soggy runs in the winters to toasty, sweaty runs in the summer, and pounding hard pavement step after step to accidentally kicking roots and rocks out on the trails, our feet really take a beating. Therefore, it seemed like a great time to review Pillow Slides, a sandal with support and comfort in mind.
Construction:
These slides are made with 4.5cm thick EVA compression material designed to provide not only comfort, but support. They are anti-chafe, anti-slip, and durable. As the name suggests, they are squishy but in the way of a soft running shoe rather than an actual pillow. Straight of the packaging they are a bit more still than you’d expect, but they are designed to have a breaking in period (or you can soak them in warm water for half an hour to speed this process up). These slides are already showing their versatility and I look forward to using them all summer as shower shoes at a campground, around the tent site after a day of hiking or backpacking, at a finish line of a trail run, and around the house as I’m currently enjoying.
Looks:
Slides, thanks to TikTok, have become trendy and whether you’re wearing these at home, at a finish line, or to the grocery store, it’ll matter exactly none. Pillow Slides come in 4 colors (ocean blue, oat latte, pink, or black) and run a little big to accommodate being worn with socks.
As the pandemic trudges on, we’ve all become more accustomed to seeing (and wearing!) slippers in public.
Fit:
These fit nicely for nearly all foot types. When choosing a size, if you’re a half-size that isn’t available or is sold out, it’s recommended to size down given the open toe and flex of the upper. A common question asked is “why do they shrink in the sun?” (and since it not exactly pool weather in Oregon right now I haven’t encountered this), but their website describes the material as having micro air pockets that compress when overheated, which might factor into the size you need.
Overall:
I’ll keep grabbing these slides for their versatility and comfort, but they’re also designed to compress underfoot to relieve foot, ankle, knee, hip, and back pain. While they won’t be cure, they’re a comfortable way and easy thing to have to get some relief. If you wear slippers or shoes in the house a lot, these slides are worth a try.
