“Wanna go run a race on a volcano?”
I’ve decided that is going to be my official small talk question for the next month. It’s unique. It’s engaging. And it’s possible.
Volcanic 50K+ and 25K are a weekend of running opportunities on Mt. St. Helens. Both are challenging courses that will have runners all over the volcano, including crossing boulder fields, following Loowit trail, trekking forest trails, and gazing upon the Cascade mountains. The 50K+ is a single-track trail that goes around the entire mountain; it’s so tough that participants must have completed another 50K trail race or the Volcanic 25K prior to race day. The 25K option involves 3,200 feet of gain and loss; the 50K+ has 7,400 elevation gain and loss.
And again: IT’S ON A VOLCANO!!!
Both races begin and finish at Marble Mountain Sno Park. The finish party includes burgers for all participants, and food for purchase for friends and family members. Finishers will also receive some celebratory swag and be entered into raffle prices from sponsors.
If for some reason VOLCANO, wasn’t enough for you, then check out all the amazing images on the Volcanic website. You’ll want to go to there.
