Last winter was my first experience with the Worst Day of the Year Run. And it was the most fun I ever had at a worst anything. There is so much about this race that is fun. To start with, you get to choose your start time: 9, 10, or 11am. So, you can get your 5K run out of the way early in the morning, or sleep in and then head over to McMenamins. Next fun thing is all the costumes you will see. All adults in costumes get a free beer after their race. And there were tons of groups who all got into it together (including lots of adorable kids in superhero capes sprinting around). Last but not least is a medal with lots of sparkle and shine, perfect for wearing while you celebrate with homemade soup, rolls, and warm drinks. And if the February weather has you worried about the Worst Day, there are lots of fire pits to stay close to before you head to the starting line.
This year the event is on the day before the Super Bowl (and a bunch of political stuff is happening that week too). Grab your friends to celebrate all of the good and fun in our world. Then take an extra helping of nachos the next day to celebrate anything else you want.
