For those of us that race regularly in the greater Portland area, Cook Park should be a familiar location. Expansive, with greenways along the river, forest, and meadow as well as near the typical playgrounds and ball fields, it’s a nice place to run nestled in Tigard. Easily accessed from both interstate 5 and 99W, it feels secluded for being in such a bustling area. On Saturday, September 29th, they will be taking advantage of this great location for the 5th running of the Tigard K9-5K.
Race start time is 9 am, and with Uberthons in charge of results, they will be accessible shortly after a runner finishes. Dogs are welcome as well, with top 3 awards for the fastest canine participants (and their leashed people). There will also be awards for the top 3 overall male and female participants in addition to the kids run winner. Finishers medals will be handed out to all participants. There will be an option of a post race breakfast, featuring pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. Sign up for this while registering online. T-shirts can be ordered online with registration, as there will only be a few available on race day.
A pre race bib pick up option will be on Thursday the 12th at the Tigard Burgerville (12785 SW Pacific HWY). Day of event pack pickup will open at 8 am at Cook Park. The official race start/finish area is at the Bishop-Scheckla Gazebo. Proceeds are going to the support the K9 partners of the Tigard Police Department, Diesel and Rico. They also support local schools and other youth agencies.
