Obstacle Course Race Preview: 2019 Terrain Race (Sherwood)

If you are looking for an affordable obstacle course race, this year’s Terrain Race is just that. While being offered at just $40 (plus insurance/venue fee and charitable donation – totaling about $15), this event has been advertised for free for many months! That’s right – registration has been free – although you still have to pay the insurance and fees, that’s still quite the bargain! While I don’t know that it is still free at the time of this publication, check out the website . . . there’s a chance you can still squeak in at that amazing price. And even at $40, for an obstacle course race, that’s a steal!

Terrain Race is a 5K course that includes 15+ obstacles like mud, walls, ropes, monkey bars, and more. If a 5K doesn’t sound like enough for you, you can sign up for Unlimited Laps and take on the course as many times as you’d like! Additional laps will earn multi-lap pins that you can add to your medal ribbon when you finally finish.  Your registration includes a shirt and medal. If you choose, you can add the optional timing and photos when you register. After the race hang out in the festival area where there will be sponsor booths, food and beer available. There will also be music and some fun post-race competitions where you could win some free stuff.

If you have kids between the ages of 2 and 10, there is the Mini Monkey Run. This is a 1/2 mile course that includes scaled down obstacles for the kids. Kids even get a medal and a shirt. Adults are allowed to run along with the kids to help out if needed.

This event will be held on both Saturday and Sunday, so choose your day and your start time – based on availability when you register. If you haven’t tried a Terrain Race, be sure to check it out. It is muddy, fun, and some of those obstacles will be challenging. The good news is that there are no penalties if you can’t complete an obstacle. You just do the best you can and have fun in the process. I have a feeling you just might enjoy yourself!
