OK. You just ran the Freedom 5k, what’s next? Well, how about spending your day right here in Molalla! There is a lot going on during our big Fourth of July festivities! We host our start/finish line at Heckard Field and have full access to the locker rooms which means flush toilets and showers! The showers are communal and don’t have soap or shampoo, so be be sure you bring your own soap/shampoo and your towel. But still, being able to spend the rest of the day clean is super underrated! Now that you are all freshened up, you can watch the rest of the parade, which is in easy walking distance from the field on East Main Street. This parade is a multi-generational family tradition that has been going on for decades. Bring a beach towel, blankets, or lawn chairs so you can sit back and enjoy this festive parade.

With your race entry, you will also receive a free matinee ticket to the July 4th Molalla Buckaroo Rodeo. There are concessions for snacks and, of course, cowboy hats. This family-friendly event is a great time with lots of thrills and yahoos! Right next to the rodeo grounds is the carnival full of fun rides, games and treats. Speaking of treats…the food in town is great!  For over 50 years, the St. James Church members have been cooking up this amazing meal, including BBQ chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, roll, and dessert. There are several awesome local coffee places to get caffeinated: Hot Shots, Cowboy Coffee, and Prairie House Inn (which has seating and free wi-fi). Molalla also has sit down restaurants and a few fast food stops as well. Whatever you want, we got it!

If it’s a hot day, Fox Park has a great water play pad for the kids and a great playground with picnic areas. Fox Park is less than a mile away from Heckard Field and the Molalla River is only a mile away if you need something more in tune with nature. Feyrer Park is a state park that has day use and overnight camping (check web site for availability) right on the river if you want to make a whole weekend of the experience
