The Freedom 5k is not just a fun race for the whole family, but it helps the community of Molalla. This event is put on by the Molalla Running Club which is a non-profit. Your race dollars really make a difference in our town. After we pay our direct race expenses, we give all our money back to the community. Since we began the Freedom 5k in 2012, we have given over $30,000 back! Here is what your race dollars support this year:
- One portion of the profits will go to support veterans in need through our local VFW Post. The money raised that go to the veterans helps things like providing dental care to homeless veterans, giving care packages to active duty members in combat zones, and financial aide to needy/disabled veterans.
- Another portion of our profits will go to our local Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber organizes the parade, and they support the businesses in our community.
- Our third beneficiary is the Molalla’s Farmer’s Market Power of Produce. The Power of Produce (POP) Club program seeks to create a national movement dedicated to empowering children to make healthy food choices at farmers markets. POP Club program equips families with nutrition education and cultivates future generations of farmers market supporters by providing farmers and children with the opportunity to connect over fresh, local produce.
- Our forth beneficiary will be our Molalla area elementary schools jog-a-thon program. The schools involved are Clarkes, Mulino, Rural Dell, and Molalla Elementary. We created a fun contest to help encourage sign ups, create school spirit, and bring awareness to the jog-a-thon program. Each school will get a portion of prize money.
So just know that your dollars are well-spent here in Molalla and your race entry will have a lasting impact here long after you cross the finish line!
