I’ve made it no secret that personally I think that Southern Oregon is one of the best places to run in the state. With clean air, relatively mild weather and great views, the Mt. Ashland 5K scheduled for July 6th is likely to take advantage of every positive aspect of the region. Dubbed ‘America’s Friendliest 5K’, with hugs for finishers and great prizes, this race is like no other.
Reigstration is currently open through RunSignUp. Fees for youth are $15 for the 5K and $20 for the 10K. For full grown adults it is $25 and $35, respectively. After June 14th, the prices for each increase by $5. Proceeds go to the Mt. Ashland Association. Packet pick up begins at 9 am in the Mt. Ashland ski lodge, with the race beginning at 10:30. Fair warning, the course begins with an 1100 foot climb! At the top is an aid station with TIME and CHALLENGE cars. Participants must pick one. A CHALLENGE card could have any one of various silly tasks or challenges, while a TIME card could increase or decrease your finish time. May the odds be ever in your favor as you choose which stack to draw from. The 10K course starts and ends the same as the 5K, but with a out and back section added on and an additional aid station.
Situated right off Interstate 5 in Southern Oregon, Ashland is a great place to spend a weekend away. The Mt. Ashland 5k sounds like a fun runcation that can be a focal part of an outdoorsy trip. The trails and views around there are worth the drive.
