Running and racing in Central Oregon certainly has its perks. The views out here are out of this world, especially the closer you get to the mountains. One such place to experience Central Oregon for all its beauty is in the town of Sisters, located just a couple hours east of Portland, Salem and Eugene. One such race to experience is the Sisters Better Half Marathon, a family friendly event that features a flat, fast course. More than the stellar views, this race offers 3 neat ways to compete.
The course is a 6.55 mile loop, giving runners the choice of 1 loop or 2. The other option is to grab your “better half” and do the half marathon as a relay. Either way, you start and end in the beautiful Village Green City Park, just 2 blocks from downtown Sisters. Once you’re done running, you can hang out at the park and enjoy amazing food and drink from Three Creeks Brewing Creeks Brewing and maybe even catch up with new race director, Sean Meissner!
This year’s race benefits the Sisters High School Swim Team, many of whom will most likely be on the course as volunteers. Having run this event twice, I love the atmosphere, the well-organized start/finish, the bevy of awesome volunteers, and the green grass to crash in once you cross the finish line. The food and tasty beverages at the end, along with the beauty of the local park, make hanging out after the race a lot of fun. Look for me there this year as I get to run with my “better half”!!

Cost/Register: 6.55 mile = $30. 1/2 marathon = $50. 1/2 marathon relay = $60. Go to UltraSignup to register.
