Race Preview: 2019 Worst Day of the Year Run (Troutdale)

The organizers behind the Worst Day of the Year Run know that it might be hard for you to think about running during the wet winter months, so they crafted a practically perfect 5K that includes a medal at the end. And as the website says; “of course it has glitter.”

Scheduled for the time of year when the skies are greyest, the ground is muddiest, and the people are whiniest, this race is all about getting out and getting it done so you can party. The two-loop event takes place at McMenamins Edgefield, which of course hosts the after-party complete with homemade soup and adult beverages (first one is free if you come in costume). In case you’re not a morning person, there are 9am, 10am, and 11am start times. It’s a great way to spread out the anticipated 1,200 participants.

And afterwards, when you are strutting around with that new glittery medal, you can also wear your new winter beanie. Shirts are available for purchase ($18 in advance, $24 at the event). The beanie is part of your registration. I’m already signed up and looking forward to that adorable penguin, and of course: the glittery medal.

Don’t let the worst day of the year pass you by without considering this possibly best race of the year.
