Race Preview: 2018 FootZone Cookie Run (Bend) – FREE RACE!

Down in Bend, where the air is thinner and the temps get a little frigid this time of year, Footzone running store puts on a host of fun events to keep people moving, while also encouraging the joy of the running community in Central Oregon. I have always enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of group runs from the store, whether it be a good form running clinic, a half marathon training group, or just a friendly get together for no other reason than to run. Footzone does all of these things for the primary reason of getting runners together, which is awesome!

One such event, which is completely free, is their annual Cookie Run, which aims to “celebrate the holidays with good cheer and delicious cookies!” Runners and walkers are encouraged to bring cookies (Footzone will also be providing cookies and beverages), pack up the kids and go for a 3 mile run before meeting back at the store to enjoy the yumminess. Pro tip: I usually snag a couple of cookies ahead of time, to enjoy on the run.

Besides the Cookie Run, Footzone also hosts their CORK Hot Chocolate Run on the 2nd Sunday of each month, from November through February. These runs are typically in the mornings and are a 4-5 mile trail run along the Deschutes River. The next hot chocolate run will be Sunday, December 9th at 9am.

Another great event is their annual New Year’s Day Run, which is coming up much faster than any of us would probably like! This fun, free event takes runners through the Old Mill on either a 3 or 5 mile course, while starting and finishing at Atlas Cider/Crux. The event starts at 10am on New Year’s Day.

When: The Footzone Cookie Run will be Monday, December 17th, from 5:30-7 pm

Cost: No cost. Runners are encouraged to bring some cookies to share.

Register: Runners are encouraged to RSVP through their site.
