Race Preview: 2018 Give n’ Gobble 5k/10k (Sherwood)

During Thanksgiving week, there are usually many races to choose from, and I’m always happy to find an event in a smaller town or a place where I haven’t run before. The Give N Gobble 5k run/walk and 10k run in Sherwood can be a great start to your Thanksgiving Day. Both distances start together at 9am at the Sherwood High School stadium on Meinecke Rd. Since there will be runners and walkers starting together, participants are asked to self-seed in the starting corral according to their anticipated speed. Strollers are permitted on the course, but please start towards the back. The 5k route takes you through Sherwood neighborhoods, while the 10k also includes some rural roads south of town.

This chip-timed event is limited to 2,000 participants and has sold out for the past five years. Registration is online only (no day of race registration!), and offers individual, team, and family rates. There is no t-shirt option during registration, but you can get your free event shirt when you donate a bag of food on the morning of the run. Proceeds from the event support Helping Hands (Sherwood’s food bank) and the Backpack Meals for Kids program.

Register now before the event fills up! The early bird pricing ends on October 31.
