Race Preview: 2018 Klickitat Marathon/Half/5k Trail Run

Come to Klickitat, WA on November 3rd for the 2018 Klickitat Marathon/Half/5k Trail Run. This year, the 6th annual race brought to you by the Columbia Gorge Running Club will be giving out three $500 Scholarships to the winner’s accredited college or trade school.  Proceeds from the race will benefit The Klickitat Youth Center and the Lyle Activity Center.

Park at the youth center parking lot, or at the Klickitat school across the street if need be. Be sure to allow enough time for the shuttle if you are running the 5k or half!! Don’t be late!!

The marathon will begin on the trail across from the Klickitat Youth Center and is, along with the half and 5k courses, considered “medium technical” due to some rocky areas. The first half of the marathon will have a slow low grade decline followed by a slow low grade incline for the second half back to the Youth Center. There will be 7 aid stations on the course and porta potties near miles 3, 10, and 13.

The half marathon will start in Lyle, WA, so make sure you catch the shuttle bus from the youth center at 10:00AM for the point-to-point course. The slow grade incline course back to the youth center will include 3 aid stations and porta potties at the start as well as near mile 10.

The 5k will be perfect for runners and walkers alike, and all participants under the age of 18 can do the 5k for free. Shuttle buses for the 5k will depart the youth center at 9:45AM. The start location is out on the trail. Porta potties will be available on location.

All of the courses will have stunning views of the beautiful Klickitat River and follow the Klickitat Trail. The course markings will be evident with mile posts along the way so you don’t get lost, and all will finish back at the youth center. There will be some rocky areas as mentioned above, so please be careful.

The 5k race is $13 for participants over the age of 18, the half marathon will be $33, and the full marathon is $66. Online registration closes on November 1st. On race day, the costs will increase $10 and you can sign in or register starting at 7:00AM at the Jerry Lynch Community Center (formally known as Klickitat Youth Center.) There is a long-sleeved shirt or hooded sweatshirt available for purchase when registering as well, available thru October 21st.

All finishers will get a medal and are eligible for prize drawings, which have included Mt Hood Meadows ski lift tickets in the past 5 years. This is not guaranteed for this year, but the chances are good that you’ll have some great prizes! There will be plaques for the top male and females as well an awesome after-party which starts at 11:00AM. There will be music, booths, and delicious homemade soups, chili, bread, and pastries to enjoy until 3:00PM.
