Race Preview: 2018 Strut Your Kidney 5K, 10K & 1 Mile Fun (Portland)

Athletes sure don’t take their bodies and health for granted, or they shouldn’t. As someone who has family members that is affected by kidney issues (my brother was born with one kidney, which is a condition called Renal Agenesis and his father-in-law is waiting for a kidney transplant), I feel personally compelled to speak of the importance of raising awareness for kidney health.

Our bodies are amazing and when they don’t work properly, it can cause a big impact. Enter: NW Kidney Kids. NW Kidney Kids is a program that provides support and education to families and youth (ages birth-18) with chronic kidney disease. The Strut Your Kidney 5K & 10K & 1 Mile Fun Run aims to educate the community and raise funds for all that NW Kidney Kids offers, from preventative services and resources for those who need help.

What: Strut Your Kidney 5K & 10K & 1 Mile Family Fun Run

Where: Sellwood Riverfront Park. 1221 SE Oaks Park Way, Portland, OR 97202.

When: Sunday, September 23rd 8am-12pm.

Registration: Prices increase on 9/9. There is a discount for families who register together. 5K cost is $35 and the 10K is $45. Virtual donations are accepted for those who want to donate but can’t participate. All who register receive a t-shirt, swag bag and personalized fund raising page. Packet pickup has two locations: Foot Traffic in Sellwood from 2-6pm on 9/22 and day of race (9/23) at Sellwood Riverfront Park from 8-9am.

Race Day Info: The website includes very detailed and easy to follow course maps for the 5K and 10K. There are NEW courses this year!

Swag: T-shirts and a goodie bag.

Abby was raised in Tigard, Oregon and moved to Denver, Colorado in 2007. While in Colorado she ran her first 5K, which led to a 10K, which led to a half-marathon.
