With over 16,000 5K events happening each year across America, it is always fun to find a race that is tackling the distance in an unexpected way. In the case of Lyle’s Myles 5K Run/Walk this July, the only way to win is to lose.
Lyle Smith is a Vancouver local and an organizer for the event. Any race participant who completes the 3.1 miles ahead of Lyle will be disqualified. Oh the amazing things you can do when you are in charge. There will be awards for the “Fastest Disqualified” runners in each age group, and a party that all participants (qualified or disqualified) can participate in.
The yearly event starts and ends in Esther Short Park, so participants are encouraged to stick around afterward for Saturday in the Park events. Another reason to look into Lyle’s Myles is that all proceeds will be donated to non-profit organizations working for a world without HIV/AIDS. Participants can bring additional pledges on Saturday morning to go toward this worthy cause.
