If you want to do a race that’s really got something for everyone, consider dropping in on the 2018 Tri Trail Challenge hosted by Eclectic Edge Racing in Eugene on Saturday April 21st. You can do the 8k Climb & Descent, the 1.5k Time Trial, the 3k Flat & Fast Loop, or take on the “challenge” that the title of the event suggests and do all three!
Here’s how it works if you opt to participate in all of the events. First, you’ll take off for the 8k, and after the results are posted for that, you’ll start the 1.5k time trial based on the order you finished the 8k (there will be 15 second race intervals.) After this, you will again wait for results to post and then there will be a 15 minute rest before the final 3k race begins in one group mass. Challenge participants receive overall and age group points from each of the 3 races and awards are based on the lowest combined scores. Scores are NOT based on total time, so you can strategize while you are out on the course to decide how hard you want to work depending on what you see others in your age group doing. You also have the option of just doing the 8k or the 3k if you’d prefer.
The 8k course starts and finished at Frank Kinney Park along Alpine Loop and runs up Amazon Headwaters to the Fox Hollow trailhead before looping back around. Check out the course map here. The 1.5k time trial will start and finish at the staging area on Alpine Loop, up onto the Amazon Headwaters Trail and back onto the trail to the finish. See the map for that here. The 3k starts where the 1.5k does, runs north on Rexius Trail, loops left at Fox Hollow Road, and follows the Rexius Trail back to the finish. Check that out here.
The top 3 overall male and female finishers (point-wise in the challenge) will receive awards as well as the top 3 in each age group in the challenge. The first place finisher in each age group for the open 8k and 3k will also get awards.
