Kickstarter of the Week: Roam Oatmeal

For some, hiking and backpacking season never ends. For those who require a little more cooperation with the weather, it’s still a few months away. That being said, it’s never too early to start looking at how you are going to pack this year – including gear, clothing, and fuel. Right here in PDX comes a new Kickstarter from new company Roam Oatmeal, who is specializing in packable instant oatmeal for all your fueling needs.

Here’s a little background on the company:

In 2015, Co-Founder Kevin and two friends ventured into the deep Patagonian backcountry with 105 liters of gear each. For the next few months they explored some of the most remote backcountry in the world. This oatmeal was born on that trip. To stay fueled, and more importantly to keep breakfast enjoyable, the crew started mixing the various things they could find in the local markets with their oatmeal, setting the foundation for the flavors and recipes that became Roam Oatmeal.

Back in the US, Kevin and Russell backpacked into the Wallowa Mountains in Oregon, and it was here that the idea to turn these delicious oatmeal blends into a business started. There’s nothing like hours of hiking, sitting around the campfire, and talking about life to put a plan in motion, and that’s exactly what happened. The seeds of the idea grew, and after almost two years of modifying and perfecting the recipes, we are excited to bring Roam Oatmeal to you.

Even though this is great for camping, I personally think this will be great for runners as well. I eat oatmeal every morning for breakfast, and this is a perfect option for bringing along on a long run to refuel along the way or afterwards.

There are 4 flavors, and a mere $12 Kickstarter pledge will net you a 4-pack.

  • Coconut Cranberry
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Hazelnut Mocha
  • Cinnamon Pecan

These are unique combinations in oatmeal and provide a little “oomph” to sometimes otherwise bland food we eat on the trails and in our tents. Each is also organic, gluten-free, and is only 300 calories.

Funding Status: ~$4,300 of $6,000
