Small Race Preview: 2018 Ocean Sciences Meeting 5k Fun Run (Portland)

As a scientist and self proclaimed geek, the name of the Ocean Sciences Meeting 5k immediately caught my interest. The Ocean Sciences Meeting runs the week of February 11-16, and on Thursday morning, February 15th at 6am, meeting attendees and community members are invited to join the third annual Ocean Sciences 5k run.

The run starts at the Tomodachi Friendship Circle at the north end of Waterfront Park under the Steel Bridge, runs south to the turnaround at the Marquam Bridge, then back to the start. The 6am run will be one hour before sunrise, so despite street lighting on the trail, it may be handy to have a headlamp or flashlight. The race is chip timed by Huber Timing. Awards are given to the top finishers.

Proceeds will go towards Surfrider Oregon and Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition, non-profits that help conserve and the Oregon coast.
