Race Preview: 2017 Shellburg Falls Trail Run (Lyons)

If you’ve heard of the Silver Falls Marathon (or half, or 50k, or 7-miler), then you know about Run Wild Adventures. Just a few short weeks after the Silver Falls weekend, they host the Shellburg Falls Trail Run, which is their less popular (limited to 250 runners) but also incredibly scenic 5-ish mile run.

Shellburg Falls is in the vicinity of Silver Falls and will held be on Saturday, December 2nd this year. The course is on hilly singletrack and will likely be muddy (or even snowy / icy!) so dress accordingly! In addition, unlike Silver Falls, pets are allowed on this course!

This event is a favorite of Run Oregon’s blogger, Matt Rasmussen, and he best describes this event as follows:

Mile 2 is the “money” portion of the event – featuring yet another Run Wild Adventures race with a run behind a waterfall. Shellburg Falls is smaller than the giant ones [nearby], but it is breathtaking nonetheless. [The] scenery from the top is spectacular. Like crazy good. Like want to stop running for the day and just gaze over the Valley good. The next stretch along a narrow canopy-covered trail is a blast. The final few miles were along the snow-covered service road, with running made easier by following the pre-made tire tracks, and a long downhill stretch to the finish.

So register, run, and enjoy the post-race soup, beer, fire-pit, and raffle! There also will be awards for the Top 3 overall Male and Female Finishers and top 3 in age groups.
