What Run Oregon is Wearing: Fuelbelt

Safety first!!  I’m an after work runner, so as the days are getting shorter now, I am always looking for new products to help me for running in the dark. Fuelbelt is a well known brand among runners for well, fuel belts/hydration packs, but I didn’t know that they also made products for night time running. As part of their “Neon” collection they have a wide variety of items, here are just a couple of them that I got to try out and also one of their newest hydration options!

Neon Vest

I’ve seen many runners and cyclists lately wearing some form of vest in the evening and this is a great option to choose from. It is very lightweight and breathable, hi-viz reflective in all conditions and offers adjustable sizing so its one size fits all. When I pulled it out of the box, I was surprised at how light it was – I had always assumed they would be of heavier material. It was easy to put on and since it is adjustable, it won’t ride up at all, woo! It has hi viz accents on both the front and back  so you’ll be seen coming and going! I wore it on an early evening run and I felt it was very easy to run in and it did make me feel like cars/people could see me better. I will say that it isn’t the most attractive thing to wear when running, but I’m not sure that any safety vest would be. It is cut in a slimmer design than most, so it doesn’t look as silly – but of course, when it comes to be safe, it doesn’t really matter what it looks like!

  • Reflective dusk to dawn, and in wet or dry condiitions
  • Ergonomic, slim cut desing for full range of motion with no ride up
  • One size fits all
  • Constructed of soft, lighweight, and breathable mesh material
  • Color: Yellow

Fire Flare Band

If you happened to read some of my other reviews on here about evening running, you’ll know that I used to run with a head lamp wrapped around my wrist to guide my way and be seen. The Fire Flare Band is this exact idea, but in a much better form and style!

Whatever this band is made of feels strange to me – almost sticky like but it isn’t at all. However, it is stretchy, sweat proof, very lightweight and water resistant so it works out just fine! The band itself is a grey-ish color and the LED safety light is red. There are three options – full glow, rapid blink or slow blink. On my test run, I did feel that it helped people see me – I liked it best on the full glow or slow blink. I felt like the rapid blink was a little distracting to myself and potentially drivers.

  • Be safe and be seen with hi-viz red LED safety lights
  • 360-degree visibility with rapid blink, slow blink, and full glow LED modes
  • Sweat-proof, water resistant design moves with you
  • Lightweight material for ultimate comfort

 Tech Fuel

I’ve been wanting and looking for a handheld hydration bottle for quite awhile now. As I do not like to generally hold things in my hands when I run, I am very picky! The Tech Fuel is not just a hydration bottle, it also can hold your phone! I have a Sony Xperia XZ Premium which is a rather large phone and I had to take the case off my phone for it to fit into the phone holder, but once it was in there, it was a solid and strong hold. The bottle itself was very lightweight, but with the combined weight of my phone and water, it did feel pretty heavy and would take me awhile to get used to when running. I did like the ability to see my phone easily (usually I have it in a pack out of sight) and having water with me right there was nice too – the drinking valve was easy to open and close with no leakage of any kind. The adjustable straps were good to have so that I could make it tighter or looser as needed. The Tech Fuel also has two loops for gel packs that I used successfully. Having everything right there on my hand was a different experience, but I think I liked it and will definitely keep running with it!

  • Lighweight ergonomic comfort grip design
  • 10oz of hydration
  • Bottles are top shelf dishwasher safe and BPA-free
  • Reflective accents
  • Two gel pack loops
