Race Preview: 2017 Beaver Fever Triathlon and Duathlon (Philomath)

Hosted by the Oregon State Triathlon Club, the Beaver Fever Triathlon and Duathlon is being held on Sunday October 15, 2017. The Triathlon begins with a swim at Philomath community pool – located in the high school. It features a 5 lane 25 yard pool. The swim is 500 yards and there is a .21 mile run to transition from the pool. Swim start is based on 500 yard swim times, four people per lane. Each swimmer will start 5 seconds behind the person in front of them. Waves begin at 9 a.m. and start times reflect this delay.

The 20 mile road bike course (new in 2013) is a loop with 2 short hills in the first 8 miles and a 2 mile hill at mile 8.5. Beginning at Philomath Middle school, bikers follow the loop through smooth country roads. Two mile Decker Hill adds a gradual climb with an exciting descent.

For the 5k cross-country course athletes leave transition and begin the fun and fast Philomath High School cross-country course. The course will be marked with orange flags and cones and requires two loops to finish. An aid station is located immediately outside the transition area and runners will pass it twice during the cross-country 5k.

This fun event began with the Duathlon in 2003, as a fundraiser for the Oregon State Triathlon Club team. In 2013, they expanded the race to include a triathlon which sold out immediately.
This event is chip timed and longer than a traditional sprint. The Beaver Fever is one of the last multi-sport events of the season, so be sure to sign up early to ensure your spot!

The Oregon State Triathlon Club, also hosts the Beaver Freezer Triathlon in April, so you can start and end your multi-sport season with them.
