“Any idiot can do it” and, “Everyone deserves a hero,” those are the mottoes for the Hilton Half and Family Fun Run. So, what do these two saying have to do with this race? In 2013, the name of the race was changed to Hilton Half in honor of TR Hilton, who was a loved and huge part of the Grant County community and passed in May 2013. He was often called “Superman” because there was nothing he couldn’t do. He was a hero in many people’s eyes. And he often said, “Any idiot can do it” in regards to challenges. He is described as determined and dedicated and is remembered lovingly through this race.
And speaking of heroes, this race emulates this through 100% of the race proceeds benefiting Families First Parent Resource Center. Families First Parent Resource Center serves families in Grant County through providing education and social services through workshops, classes, and early education.
This race offers a super-sized half marathon (14 miles), a 5K and a 10K. It is an on and off-road course and designed for runners from beginning to advanced. Family friendly superhero costumes are encouraged.
The super-sized half marathon begins at Depot Park in Prairie City and follows a scenic route through the foothills of Strawberry Mountain. The course is fairly flat with some slight rolling hills. Panoramic views fill the course as it loops and returns to Depot Park. There are some road and some gravel portions and the course includes two bathroom stops and multiple hydration stations. The race begins at 8am.
The 10K finishes the end of the half marathon course and will start on gravel and run partially down Highway 26 before finishing at Depot Park. The 10K starts at 8:30. The 5K starts at 9am and runs along the foothills of Strawberry Mountain and finishes at Depot Park.
