As a relatively new runner/racer, I spend 5 days a week running/training to get better, faster, farther and stronger. This is why I find triathlons so amazing – these triathletes train how I do on just running on THREE different athletic activities AT THE SAME TIME!! How badass is that?! Someday maybe I’ll work my way up to a duathlon (bike/run) but I doubt I’ll ever do a triathlon. If you are one of those badass triathletes and you’ll be around Madras in September, you should definitely check out this MAC Dash Sprint Triathlon – it’s a great event and has been going on for 10 years!
Held the first Sunday after Labor Day, the MAC Dash Sprint Triathlon is held at the Madras Aquatic Center (MAC) and benefits the center’s youth programming. There are several options to choose from: the Mini MAC Dash which is free for kids 10 and under; the all new for this year Middle MAC Dash which is also free and for kids 11 to 14; and the original MAC Dash.
*Mini MAC Dash – This event is untimed to allow the kids to focus on participation and not competition. There are both short and long distances which can be varied depending on what the ability level is in each event. Every participant receives a goody bag, shirt and medal.
|SWIM:||Short Course – 2 widths of the lap pool|
|Long Course – 6 widths of the lap pool|
|BIKE:||Short Course – 1/3 mile (relatively flat)|
|Long Course – 1 mile (with some fun hills)|
|RUN:||Both Courses -1/4 mile|
*Middle MAC Dash – This event is timed and competitive. Awards will be given to top three female and male finishers.
|SWIM:||100 yard (4 pool lengths)|
*MAC Dash – The main event! The MAC Dash sprint triathlon consists of a 500-yard swim in the pool, a 12-mile road bike ride and a 3-mile run. Each leg of the MAC Dash provides views of nine snow-peaked mountains and the beautiful surrounding Madras area. This race is chip timed and racers are responsible for returning their timing chip at the finish or they will be charged a $30 chip replacement fee. Awards are given to overall male and female individual finishers, top Jefferson County male and female individual finishers, top teams and top three in age division groups. Stick around for a yummy lunch, massages and music! This particular event is limited to 250 racers, so get registered right now!
