Who doesn’t love a parade? The City of Beaverton is holding the 60th annual Celebration Parade on September 9th and the 7th annual Beaverton Celebration 5k Family Fun Run will kick off all the fun.
The race is only $20 a person and $5 of your entry will go towards the Ecumenical Ministries Second Home of Beaverton which helps the school district’s homeless children. If you register on race day, the cost goes up to $25 but $10 of the cost will benefit this group.
The Beaverton Celebration Family Fun Run is a timed (though not chip-timed) 5k run/walk and is a ‘flat, fast” out and back course on paved city streets along the city’s parade route proceeding the Celebration Parade. The road will be closed to traffic, patrolled by race officials and Beaverton Police, and will be perfect for all abilities and ages. There is also a Youth Dash which is free to kids from 4 to 10 years of age (though a waiver is required.) It is requested that participants show up prior to 8:30AM on race day in order to help organizers get prepared. At the finish line, runners will line up single file in the finish chute where numbered tags are taken and the information is collected.
There is a one hour time limit for the race since it proceeds the parade, so participants must be exiting Schiffler Park and returning back by 8:50 before officials will have to direct runners to the sidewalks.
There will be no bag check area, but ample parking will be close to the race.

Also on September 9th is another family-friendly race in Tigard calls the Family Fest Fun Run. The race is just under 3 miles and is open to all runners and walkers. Participants under 5 years old are free and strollers are encouraged.
This run starts at City Hall and takes runners along the trails before ending on Main Street at the Downtown Street Festival. You can check out the route here.
