You are a runner, so obviously you like a challenge. The Mt. Ashland 5k is not your typical run though .. There are all sorts of surprises in store for you at this race in Ashland on July 8th.
If you don’t want to run hills, this isn’t the race for you. You’ll start this race at the Mt. Ashland Ski Area lodge and you’ll get a nice wake-up call to the calves with a 1,100 foot climb up Mt. Ashland to the weather ball at the top. When you get to the top of that, you’ll reach an aid station that’s handing out more than water. There will be two stacks of cards to choose from. There are “challenge” cards and “time” cards, and you’ll pick whichever option feels lucky to you on race day. If you pick a “challenge” card, you could find yourself doing push-ups, playing cornhole, or even singing a Justin Bieber song. As if that climb wasn’t hard enough! You could also find yourself having to go back to the start and run that entire climb again. If you don’t want to risk the challenge option, you can take a “time” card, which will increase or decrease your time completely at random. It’s a total gamble and a bit like Truth or Dare.
After you’ve made your decision with your card, you’ll take the road back down to the Mt. Ashland Ski Lodge parking lot and you’ll finish the race and get hugs from the volunteers. After all, this is “America’s Friendliest 5k,” so what do you expect? You’ll turn in your card and race bib and you’ll then be entered to win some awesome raffle prizes. And if you were the lucky recipient of the “return to start” card, you’ll automatically win a prize, so no hard feelings there, right? Prizes last year included things like: Lift tickets to Mt. Ashland, gift certificates to Rogue Ski Shop, Rogue Valley Runners, Oak Tree Bar and Grill, Ruby’s of Ashland, and Road ID, some trail butter yumminess, Tail Wind Endurance drink mix, Dirt bag runner hates, buffs, and koozies, and Dutch Bros drink cards and t-shirts. You’ll also get a can of Caldera Beer to celebrate your finish.
Your registration is a donation to the Mt. Ashland Association and this race is a USA Track & Field sanctioned event. It’s almost too late to get a shirt, so hurry and sign up today!!
