Most races take place in the morning, and that works out well for most people, but there is something special about running into the sunset as well. The Twilight Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k takes place on the evening of Saturday, July 8th. All three distances follow out-and-back courses starting at Vancouver Lake Regional Park, running on flat paved country roads. The half marathon starts first at 6pm, next the 10k at 6:15pm, and finally the 5k at 6:30pm. This staggered start should help stretch out the field of participants and create room on the road.
Because of the evening start, there is a strict 3 hour limit on the half marathon. Participants who anticipate needing more than 3 hours for the half (14 min/mile pace) have the options for an early start at 5:30pm. The course must close at 9pm, and anybody who has not finished by 9pm risks being “swept” and not being able to finish the course. All finishers receive a beautiful sparkly owl shaped finisher’s medal.
After the race, there will be music, handmade tamales, and Hopworks beer and cider. The music will play until last call at 9:30pm, and the venue closes by 10pm.
Also included in your registration is an event t-shirt, and this year you have a choice which style you would prefer: There are tank tops, round-neck (men’s cut) t-shirts, and v-neck (women’s cut) t-shirts. All those styles are available in either the “wild” or “mild” print. You make your choice of t-shirt during the registration process.
